Since inventing the aluminum industry, and throughout our history, our talented Alcoans have followed on with breakthrough innovations and best practices that have led to efficiency, safety, sustainability and stronger communities wherever we operate.The principle function of the Continuous Improvement Manager (SBIM) is to partner with the departments of the Massena West Alcoa Plant (Potrooms, Aluminum Services, Electrode, Maintenance, Casthouse, Finance, Procurement and IT) to implement continuous improvement utilizing Alcoa Business System (ABS) or lean manufacturing techniques and concepts. The incumbent will be required to train employees on the fundamentals of the ABS or continuous improvement principles. Most meaningfully is to make sure that continuous improvement becomes instilled within the entire site.Key Responsibilities:Lead the potroom, aluminum services, carbon plant, cast house, safety, IT, human resources and maintenance organization through the implementation and deployment of lean manufacturing systems to achieve Plant business objectives.Capture opportunities in the value stream through support and collaboration with all departments. Ensure savings are detailed in Alcoas system (DI System)Establish and direct continuous improvement project work related to process improvements, cost initiatives, business plans, accounting issues, and industrial engineering studies within all departments.Assist, support, train and push all levels of the organization to find opportunities and develop action plans to increase efficiencies by creating room to collaborate utilizing A3s, Rules in Use, standardized work, problem solving and the full complement of ABS systems (industrial engineering techniques or Toyota Production System techniques).Responsible for accelerating the rate of change in the organization through process improvements, cost reductions and implementing ABS systems to highlight opportunities in the customer-supplier connections.Support the development of the annual operating plans and department budgets with the Manufacturing Manager and the Lead Team.All process engineers and technical leaders at the site will report to this position with dotted lines to the corresponding department superintendent or manager.About you:Our values act with integrity, operate with excellence, care for people are at the foundation of everything we do.
