With advancements in compute capabilities, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and quantum science, the threat to mission critical data, communications, and command and control is evolving at a rapid pace. As the new generation of quantum computing technology and peer adversaries threaten the effectiveness of existing encryption devices, MITRE, working in collaboration with government and industry partners, has undertaken the enterprise-wide replacement of encryption devices supporting every DoD mission across ground, air, space and cyber operations, and the nuclear and logistics enterprises (embedded and stand-alone).

Our department is focused on developing and fielding the next generation of high-assurance crypto solutions to secure our most critical information against the rapidly developing quantum-computing threat. The MITRE crypto team is a critical technical resource in the Air Force s Cryptographic Modernization Program, and influenced related modernization efforts across Navy, Army, US Space Force, and NSA.

Job Responsibilities:

MITRE s Mission Assurance & Crypto Department (N141) is seeking talented engineers with a background in cyber security technologies and a passion to integrate them in innovative ways to solve hard problems. The successful candidate will work as part of a collaborative team of scientists and engineers who are working to formulate solutions to our nation s most critical problems like how to modernize the nation s crypto to meet the quantum threat.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work in collaborative research teams to develop and field innovative cyber security solutions using commercial and MITRE-developed technologies.
  • Conduct performance assessments of current and emerging cryptographic architectures, technologies, and products.
  • Collaborate with commercial vendors, academia, and other organizations to develop state-of-art best practices.
  • Basic Qualifications :

  • Typically requires a Bachelor s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances. This position requires a minimum Secret.
  • Required Qualifications:

  • Current Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance access.
  • 1 year experience in cyber security or crypto systems.
  • Passion for cyber security technology and a desire to learn.
  • Familiarity with basic networking and cyber security concepts/capabilities .
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following areas: cyber security, encryption algorithms, key management, secure crypto management/control, enterprise crypto analysis/prioritization.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Candidates that possess a current/active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance are preferred.
  • 2-5 years experience in cyber security systems a plus.
  • Familiarity with net-centric (electronic) key management
  • Technical knowledge of in-field crypto end units, and modernization priorities
  • Knowledge of Supply chain risk management, and experimentation on critical software components to assess supply chain threats and mitigations.
  • Awareness of high assurance reprogrammable cryptographic architecture
