UW Facilities manages the University s buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management, Real Estate, Sustainability and other teams responsible for planning and workload management. The Operations group includes Project Delivery, Maintenance & Construction, Campus Utilities & Operations, Building Services, Transportation Services and Safety. Supporting these groups, as well as the separate Emergency Management team, are the Business Intelligence & Information Technology group and the Finance & Administration group.
Asset Management has an outstanding opportunity for an Engineering Manager.
• Provide leadership, strategic planning, and personnel management of the civil, mechanical and structural disciplines within Engineering Services. Establish expectations for assigned staff and manage workload assignments to support a wide range of engineering support to UW Facilities departments and the campus community. Track expenditures and revenues to ensure cost effective management of resources.
• Manage and direct the provision of civil, mechanical and structural engineering expertise for campus operations, maintenance and capital projects. Ensure appropriate Engineering Services technical assistance, recommendations and engineering solutions are provided to prevent and/or resolve major operational and maintenance problems. Identify life-cycle cost optimization and operational efficiencies. Coordinate with shop personnel for building and utility renewal projects and assessments, corrective engineering, preventative and deferred maintenance. Develop, implement and monitor accountability to ensure the safe and efficient management of various engineering.
• Provide management of civil, mechanical and structural engineering support during all phases of Capital Projects. Create project assignments and oversee review during programming and all design phases to ensure building systems and infrastructure are safe, reliable and future maintenance and operation activities are optimized. Ensure appropriate quality monitoring of construction project execution to specifications and standards.
• Lead civil, mechanical and structural engineering audits, analysis and feasibility studies to identify deficiencies and building and system needs. Develop projects to renovate and upgrade systems and utilities for the Building and Utility Renewal Program of $30 Million dollars per biennium and ensure appropriate engineering support is provided throughout execution.
• Manage and support the development of the Utility Infrastructure Assessment (UIA) as it relates to the Utility Master Plan (UMP) and other infrastructure planning, which compliments the Campus Master Plan (CMP) for the Main Seattle campus and other outlying branch campuses. Identify cost-effective and efficient strategies for repairing, improving and expanding utility systems and infrastructure in support of site selection and development for new or renovated facilities and utility upgrades.
• Manage the development and update of the Facilities Design Standard (FDS). The FDS provides design consistency, maintainability, utility efficiency and future flexibility while maintaining first cost of the renovating existing facility and building new facilities.
• Oversee staff that provides support of third-party commissioning for projects and/or maintenance activities.
This position oversees a structural engineer which leads the ATC-20 teams performing ATC-20 post-earthquake inspections of university facilities and infrastructure. These inspections are essential for post-earthquake recovery and restoration of services. Engineering management support is also provided for utility outages and critical system failures and other emergency events.
This position is responsible for leading engineering support for our major equipment on campus including the chiller, Power Plant and other critical utility and non-utility infrastructure around campus that supports research, medical centers and other daily functions around campus. This position will oversee the engineering design of maintenance for $100M+ capital projects. This position is knowledgeable on codes and regulations federally and locally including the Department of Ecology, Energy Code, ASHRAE code, national structural code, and national civil codes. With this knowledge the position provides legislative guidance impacting the University.
This position provides engineering support to all UWF campuses and satellite campuses helping them to make long term strategic maintenance and capital plans that not only impact our finances, but the look and sustainability of the campuses. This position provides will support our regulatory compliance with structural, civil, mechanical, and environmental standards federally as well as locally. With this knowledge the position provides legislative guidance impacting the University.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Leadership and oversight of engineering staff (approximately 7 staff) as well as an intern program - 50%
• Provide engineering expertise and guidance regarding topics such as sustainability, chillers, boilers, utility infrastructure for maintenance and capital projects throughout the University. - 40%
• - This requires the development memos, studies and calculations that provide the information that will help the University make data driven decisions regarding campus maintenance and needs.
• Miscellaneous and other duties assigned - 10%
Lead the development of the Utility Infrastructure Assessment and management of the mechanical, civil, and structural design standards for the University. Manage a technical team of approximately 7 people and an intern program.

• 6-8 years of relevant experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Washington.
• Broad construction management/project management experience and/or certification as a Project Management Professional.
• LEED AP, Certified Energy Manager, or other related certifications.
