As the Engineering Senior Advisor - Civil, you will manage all aspects of Civil Engineering design and construction activities for utility-scale renewables projects (wind, solar, and energy storage) throughout the US and Canada and serve as an innovative subject matter expert and leader. If you enjoy opportunities to work on challenging and detailed projects, while collaborating with various internal departments and external partners on all aspects of a project's lifecycle (development, construction, and operations), this role is for you! This position is located in Houston, TX, Chicago, IL, or Santa Barbara CA, is eligible to work in many locations across the U.S., and reports to the Engineering Director. What you'll do: Lead development of civil and/or foundation technical specifications for project detailed designs and construction/execution by various contractors Update standards and specifications to account for lessons learned Coordinate Engineering design efforts with EPC to review and comment on design submittals in coordination with owners engineer support Evaluate potential project locations for site suitability, based on the site's geotechnical conditions, hydrology, topography, and other relevant characteristics to inform renewable project design Manage external engineering firms, subcontractors as well as various engineering disciplines (civil, electrical, structural, etc.) to achieve the highest level of engineering and design for project execution Lead the group as the subject matter expert (Civil) and be assigned Project Engineering Manager role for assigned projects Lead design coordination and reviews of foundations, selecting racking/mounting equipment, BESS foundations, access roads, drainage plans, erosion prevention, and other Civil Engineering related tasks throughout the design and construction process Internal coordination with Development, Permitting, GIS and Land group Coordination with independent Engineering (IE) reviews Assist procurement in running RFPs and managing the process to hire civil, and geotechnical sub-contractors Assist with operations team for any corrective action and design related issues Remain up to date on new technologies and regulatory conditions including utility requirements, vendor qualifications, industry best practices, safety standards, and relevant standards development Assist with the training and coaching of new hires as well as mentor junior level engineers, interns, and Co-Op's Travel to perform site assessments, construction meetings and due diligence of fieldwork throughout the USA and Canada in support of site evaluation, project earthworks, and construction activities. Carry out other duties as assigned. What you bring: Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university preferred or comparable technical knowledge through demonstrated work experience with a solid understanding of civil design, power generation plants, and/or utility systems. Minimum of 10 years of experience in similar positions, designing renewable energy projects and producing standards, specifications, and documentation. Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred, but not required. PMI Certification is preferred, but not required. Proficiency in civil design tools such as AutoCAD is preferred. Experience in the day-to-day interactions with project development and construction teams is highly preferred.
