Description

A labor subcontractor headquartered in Austin, TX is seeking a Financial Controller to join their team. This position is a leadership role and will work closely with construction operations in addition to serving the accounting team.

The ideal candidate will have construction or project accounting experience, leadership abilities, an understanding of systems and how to optimize them, and be adaptable.

Job Duties

  • Serve in an empowering leadership role on a five-person accounting team
  • Take ownership of the daily, weekly, monthly activities of the accounting department
  • Manage the monthly close process timely and accurately
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports, including dashboards, projections, cash and income statement forecasting
  • Analyze detailed job revenue, cost, and accrual information and relate them to business decisions
  • Support and participate in accounts receivables and payables functions
  • Support the processing of bi-weekly payroll and ensure integrity in the timekeeping system
  • Commitment to becoming familiar with jobs, crews, and issues particular to specific projects
  • Supports operational activities specifically in the project management space and coordination on schedules of values
  • Ensure compliance as it relates both to accounting and labor laws
  • Manage cyclical projects such as the yearly financial review, coordinating with tax offices on annual filings, contractor licensing requirements in various states, letters of credit renewal requirements, evaluation of project performance, etc.
  • Leverage technology to optimize the accounting and project management functions companywide (Netsuite, Exponent HR, Exaktime, Chase Business Online, Office365)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience with some experience in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Project or construction accounting experience preferred
  • Demonstrated servant leadership skills and an empowering approach
  • Motivated to lean into problems and help come up with creative solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Technically savvy, experience with various financial accounting software
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

Ideal Candidate

  • 2-5 years of experience in project/construction accounting
  • Comfortable in a small business, blue collar environment
  • Sharp, ambitious, adaptable, analytical skills
  • Able to relate accounting to business strategy, able to think outside the box
  • Starting salary: $80k-$95k
  • Potentially a master's student or recent grad
