This position will support both N111, USSF's Space Enterprise Architecting Department and N222, OSD's Defense Systems Engineering Department. N111's mission is to provide thought leadership and data driven analysis to enable the Department of the Air Force and the US Space Force to design, develop, acquire and integrate future warfighting space Force Designs, including space System-of-Systems architectures and space programs, in time to outpace accelerating threats. N222's mission is to provide thought leadership to OSD's Systems Engineering and Test and Evaluation organizations to modernize and optimize their processes to design, acquire, evaluate and field effective and resilient warfighter solutions at the speed of need.

Job Responsibilities:

The Lead Space Test and Evaluation Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert and MITRE technical leader to the US Space Force and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. The Space T&E Engineer will apply a deep knowledge of T&E, broad systems engineering expertise to help the USSF and DoD "go fast" and deliver more resilient space systems. The OUSD(R&E) has established critical technology areas for investment and development to accelerate transitioning key capabilities to the Services and Combatant Commands. Space technologies is one of the fourteen critical technologies that OUSD (R&E) will prototype and test through joint experimentation to enhance the Department's adaptive and reconfigurable capabilities in space situational awareness, space control, communication path diversity, on-orbit processing, and autonomy. The Space T&E Engineer will be on the leading edge of delivering advanced space capabilities, delivering leadership and innovation vital to making the Sponsors successful.

Responsibilities include:

Technical advisor on systems engineering and test & evaluation to Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM), the Space Systems Command (SSC) National Space Test & Training Complex (NSTTC) Integrated Program Office, and OSD(R&E) Developmental Test Evaluation and Assessments (DTE&A)
Identify candidate DoD space programs to apply DTE&A's agile, scalable, evaluation framework to enable USSF to understand and apply OSD guidance/tools to inform their operational and technical decisions.
Develop OSD level Space T&E guidance for space technologies, to include model readiness methodologies, DE/MBSE best practices, M&S VV&A) aligned to USSF T&E processes and needs
Conduct engineering and analysis to provide recommendations on needed capabilities for the development of the NSTTC's on-orbit range, digital core services, data architecture, modeling & simulation, and Digital Engineering Ecosystem
Establish an enduring NSTTC requirements process and capabilities roadmaps
Provide network integration and technical interface to develop a systems integration lab (SIL) supporting the demonstration of the NSTTC minimum viable products
Conduct analysis, develop options and recommend enterprise requirements and resources needed for a future space test range and associated infrastructure
Identify test capability gaps and provide recommendations for test infrastructure improvements and new test capability development through science and technology investments
Provide recommendations on annual funding investment strategies and project roadmaps

Basic Qualifications:

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

Required Qualifications:

Must be US Citizen
Minimum Top Secret Clearance required. Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a TS/SCI and SAP DoD clearance.
Excellent communication skills with ability to knowledge share and problem solve across teams
Focused and self-motivated with the ability to work independently with distributed teams
BS and 8 years related experience.

Experience with systems engineering processes and model-based engineering tools
Proven experience with DoD space testing or range processes

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters and 10 years related experience
Active TS/SCI Clearance
Experience in space systems design, specification, development, manufacturing, and testing
Knowledge of space test range operations and infrastructure development and operations
Knowledge of space systems architectures and operations
Ability to conduct analysis and present findings to senior-level decision makers
Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of USSF and space acquisition organizations
Strong understanding of full lifecycle development methodology skills including modern development processes (Agile development, scrum, DevSecOps).
Experience with applying digital engineering practices and use of Model-Based Systems Engineering tools
Experience with modeling & simulation environments and processes to include verification, validation, and accreditation of complex environments

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$127,500 - $159,500 - $191,500 Annual
