Job Summary:
East Wests New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineering group is a catalyst for growth by working hand in hand with customers, our Asian manufacturing facilities, and third-party suppliers to bring customers new products into production. The NPI group uses their collective engineering skills, customer focus, process discipline, and strong communication and collaboration skills to navigate development challenges and ensure good project outcomes.
This senior role in the NPI organization will split time between people management responsibilities and project technical leadership.

As a people manager you will lead and support a team of domestic and Chinese engineers to provide technical and professional guidance, ensure resourcing needs are met, and ensure good project outcomes. You will also build your team by creating and managing development plans and conducting quarterly performance reviews. As part of the NPI leadership team you will work with other engineering leaders to manage resources, develop process improvements, and communicate best practices across the group.

As an engineering lead you will use your experience, engineering knowledge, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills to provide technical leadership and champion projects through our NPI process. These high visibility projects will frequently involve critical customers, novel engineering challenges, and will require significant collaboration with internal and customer partners. This position will be based in Atlanta and report to the Director of New Product Introduction. A hybrid schedule of working in the office and working from home is allowed.

Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership 25%

  • Champion East Wests core values and mission to manufacture products that make the world, cleaner, safer, and healthier
  • Mentor and manage 5+ direct reports. Supervise and support the work of the team to ensure good project outcomes and great customer service. Experience supervising the work of Chinese resources strongly preferred.
  • Assist company growth initiatives, as needed, including recruitment, facilities improvement, process improvement and business expansion with customers
  • Contribute to and implement ISO-compliant processes for NPI
  • Manage relationships with 3rd party suppliers

    • New Product Introduction / Product Development Engineering 65%

  • Champion all engineering facets of the New Product Introduction (NPI) process by working directly with customers to understand product requirements and ensuring our internal colleagues are equipped to manage production at corporate and contract facilities
  • Communicate and collaborate with customers for resolution of technical issues
  • When necessary, provide direct technical leadership to larger project engineering teams on high complexity projects
  • Provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) support to the customer on NPI projects
  • Supervise and create 3D data, drawings, and other supporting documentation (specifications, work instructions, inspection procedures, etc.) to create or complete a unified package which captures dimensional, operational, and quality requirements for manufactured products
  • Develop quality procedures and instructions for inspection and testing of manufactured products based on customer, engineering, consumer, and regulatory test standards
  • Arrange or conduct testing/validation of prototypes and completion of internal and customer qualification requirements and Coordinate product sample submissions for consumer and regulatory agencies
  • Review and obtain customer approval of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation packages
  • Collaborate with corporate quality and operations groups to ensure smooth transition of projects into production

    • Sales Support 10%

  • Support sales efforts to engage and attract new customers and expand business with existing customers

    • Up to 10% domestic and international travel may be required.

    Required Capabilities:

  • Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Detail oriented; with exceptional analytical skills
  • Demonstrated success in creatively solving problems
  • Rapid issue resolution and driving consensus among multiple stakeholders
  • Capable of working in a hands-on, fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in a customer-facing engineering service role preferred

    • Required Technical Experience:

  • Broad experience with a variety of manufacturing processes (casting, metal forming, welding, precision machining, injection molding, extrusions) and assembly methods
  • Broad experience with a variety of materials (metals, polymers, elastomers, etc.)
  • Experience with regulatory testing and compliance standards ( (ASTM, SAE, ASME, IEEE, UL, CSA, ISO, RoHS, REACH, Prop65, etc.)
  • Familiarity with electric motor development and/or manufacturing preferred
  • Familiarity with PCBA and cable manufacturing preferred
  • A history of successful partnership with manufacturing partners in Asia (Vietnam and China preferred)

    • Technical Skills:

  • Working proficiency in 3D CAD tools (Solidworks preferred) and PLM systems
  • Proficiency with GD&T preferred
  • Experience using computer modeling/simulation techniques (CFD, FEA, mold flow analysis, etc.) preferred

    • Physical Demands:

    Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the design and testing facilities. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
