POSITION OVERVIEW: Project Engineers are responsible using their cross functional expertise to support the development of a combat ground vehicle, product, or project. This typically involves integrating the work of multiple domain specific teams to support the program requirements and can also involve deep dives into domains/skills that are outside of the pre-existing functional departments as required for a program to meet its goals. This Defense Systems Project Engineer position will also contribute to the development of tools and processes related to managing requirements. Responsibilities - Typical Project: Responsibilities for a project engineer at Pratt Miller include but are not limited to leading or supporting project technical teams through full vehicle design, chassis design, technology integration, simulation, objective testing, and subjective evaluation. Develop, analyze, and validate full vehicle from a cross functional point of view. o Propulsion o Mobility o Thermal o Structure o Survivability o Lethality Understanding and ability to use or interact with the following tool chains to support the development of the vehicle. o Design/CAD o Systems model(s) o Domain specific models (Dynamics, Powertrain, etc) o Testing and Data Analysis o Trade Study and Systems Engineering toolsets Participate in the integrated development of combat and tactical vehicles Participate in vehicle and sub-system physical testing and the development of tests with focus on verification and validation of requirements. Requirements Process and Tool Development o Assist or lead formalizing new processes for managing requirements, tracking status, linking to other requirements, connecting to verification and validation o Selecting tool chains for requirements management o Support the Operational Excellence (OPEX) initiatives to continuously improve the people, process, and tools for the company o Manage requirements for assigned projects o Mentor and train others to utilize tools and process for requirements management A project engineer will typically be responsible for project deliverables as well as developing core competencies and capabilities that are outside of the functional departments. ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above, tasks relating to the following area will be assigned as required: Interaction with current and potential customers regarding the use of Pratt & Miller core technologies and tools. Technical planning on projects, including project proposals, quotes, and resource estimation Development of material for education and training purposes, both for external customers and internal employees Authoring of technical documents for journal and conference submissions ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Fundamental understanding of a systems approach to combat and tactical ground vehicle development. Due to the variety of projects underway, a fundamental knowledge of almost all automotive systems and sub-systems will be required. This position requires technical writing skills for reports and specifications using MS Word and Excel; good platform skills using PowerPoint for presentations. DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: BS or MS in Mechanical, Aerospace or similar engineering education 10+ years of applicable defense ground vehicle experience 5+ years of systems engineering and requirements management experience OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Some travel may be required depending on the program Must remain flexible with schedule and adjust to work early, late, and/or weekends as deadlines require This position may require lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information and employees in this role will need to meet those requirements.
