In this position, you will apply your knowledge of human performance and human factors techniques to the ideation, design, and development of products. You will need a solid understanding of the theories, principles, and data associated with human performance capabilities and limitations (perceptual, cognitive, motor, bio-mechanical, and anthropometric) and the ability to apply this knowledge to the design, definition, evaluation, launch, and use of products across the range of Diabetes products.

A Day in the Life

Define Human Factors project scope and timelines in partnership with project management.
Create a support strategy with project management.
Mentor junior Human Factors engineers within your business unit.
Provide HF leadership in your business unit, mentoring and guiding junior engineers to meet their objectives and deliverables.
Apply your knowledge of HF principles and timelines to develop support strategies for projects in your business unit.
Provide Human Factors support across the product lifecycle including customer and user needs identification, development of user and workplace profiles and usage scenarios, task analysis, requirements specification, generation of hardware and software design concepts (creation of physical models and prototypes, graphical user interfaces, and product graphics), user interface design, usability testing, user error analysis, and post-launch outcomes analysis.
Responsible for human factors activities across our product range including identifying, planning, monitoring, and executing tasks for entire project.
Translate requirements into interaction/interface design solution concepts.
Work closely with marketing, product planning, engineering, manufacturing, and regulatory to produce customer focused designs that not only meet user needs but also factor in business priorities and platform, architecture, and manufacturing constraints.
Develop (physical and interaction) design solutions to complex, system-wide usability problems that require ingenuity and creativity.
Develop, physical mock-ups and interactive prototypes of design concepts.
Plan and conduct end user evaluations of product concepts, analyze data, document evaluation methods and results; and present design recommendations to the product team.
Use appropriate Human Factors techniques to work with end users to determine end user behavior, preferences, and usage models and integrate these into design concepts.
Prepare clear and effective oral and written reports of current status, progress and status of project, as required by project or department management.
Interact professionally at all levels throughout the company and with consultants and customers. Comply with applicable Corporate and departmental policies.
Maintain technical knowledge current with advancing technology related to Diabetes products and associated accessories. Complete required training and certifications.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

Applies human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products.
Develops and implements research methodologies and statistical analysis plans to test and evaluate developmental prototypes used in all phases of products development and processes.
Designs and executes tests to simulate product use for the purposes of concept selection/refinement, requirements development, use-related risk identification and formal usability validation with intended users.
Interfaces with design engineers to establish system design, operating, and training requirements and to ensure optimized human-machine interfaces.
Define Human Factors project scope and timelines in partnership with project management.
Identifies and analyzes technological problems or risks, performs theoretical human factors investigations, and develops and implements research and analysis plans.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree required
Minimum of 5 years of Engineering experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years Engineering experience

Nice to Have
Ability to integrate creative skills with innovative problem solving techniques to develop design concepts.
Knowledge of the application various human factors/usability engineering principles and tools in the design, development, and evaluation of hardware and software products brought to market.
Bachelor's degree in Human Factors, Usability Engineering, Cognitive/Experimental Psychology, Kinesiology, Industrial Design or Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering with extensive human factors coursework
Strong oral and written technical communication skills. Strong ability to work with and lead multidisciplinary teams that may include other HF experts.
Ability to quickly understand and become proficient in domain knowledge.
High tolerance for change, ability to multi-task continuously, and be willing to travel.
Ability to work independently with limited guidance and develop comprehensive plans and solutions to complex issues.
Strong negotiation, conflict management, and influence management skills.
Have a working knowledge of diabetes.
Previous work experience or internships in the medical domain.
Knowledge of product development processes based on IEC 62366.
Experience integrating human factors engineering into a systems engineering process.
Experience with diverse technology platforms, including mobile applications.
